Quick closet tour

I recently did a huge closet purge a few weeks ago. You know its time to clear out your closet when the bar falls to the floor for the 3rd time this year. As a result my closet space is back organized! I know I promised you guys a closet tour on my

Video Apartment Tour

, so here it is!

My inspiration for this closet was this image I pinned on my

Custom closet pinterest page

a few years ago.

Moving into a studio loft with very minimal space forced me to turn my utility closet into a functional space for my clothing. I basically only had this one wall to work with...so I made it work!

I use the top shelf to hold my purse collection. I have just enough space for the ones I have so, before a new one can come in, an old one must go out! Key to small space living.

I love these velvet hangers for my clothes! I previously used wooden hangers and although they looked very nice, they were bulky and took up way too much space. The velvet hangers are thin and slip free, plus they come in the cutest colors!

I use the Ikea Kallax system to store some of my shoes underneath. There's space for at least four pairs of shoes in each cubbie, but I try to keep it at two to limit the shoe hoarding :)

Im pretty satisfied with this wall of my closet and can you believe that its holding all of my clothes for each season?! Yes, it surprises me too!

Now, I cant leave you guys without a few closet purging tips:

(you will need a few friends to help you through this process)

  • Remove everything out of your closet (Yes, this seems like a headache, but just leave on the hangers... it's not so bad)
  • Create specific areas for things you will KEEP, DONATE, and SELL.
  • Go through every item one by one, you will find that starting the sell and donate piles first help get the ball rolling. Your friends will be helpful in this process, they will help you "let it go" :)
  • For the sell pile: fairly new items/things with tags that have not been worn in months/years.
  • For the donate pile: outdated, too small/big items you cant see yourself wearing again.
  • Take sell items to a consignment shop for quick cash! I utilized a store in my area called Buffalo Exchange.

I had an awesome closet purge specialist who helped me with this process! If you're in the Atlanta area and would like her info email me

DIY Valentine Candle

Let me tell you, you will NEVER fail when gifting a good candle! (At least you wont fail me!) I have a pretty serious candle obsession and I would literally set a budget for my candle purchases every month. *don't judge me* So, I recently pinned a tutorial on pinterest that shows you how to easily make your own soy candles. This is ridiculously easy so no excuses if you're not the "crafty type".

I assume you're here because you want an easy handmade gift for you valentine, so lets get started!

What you'll need:

  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Paint marker
  • Ribbon
  • A jar for your candle - I picked up this cute pink ceramic bucket trimmed in gold from the dollar isle at Target
  • Gift tag - also from the Target dollar isle
  • Soy wax - I order my soy wax from amazon. I've used several different brands, but the current one I'm using is from the CandleScience brand (Its available for prime shipping!)
  • Candle fragrance - Amazon CandleScience brand
  • Candle wick - Amazon CandleScience brand

First I added my wick. I used a hot glue gun to attach it in the center. You can also use melted wax, but this is a little easier

I melted my wax by heating it on my stove. I usually use a double boiler method but I was a little pressed for time so I placed it in a metal pouring container directly on the eye and it worked just fine. Heating in the microwave works fine also!

I stirred constantly until my wax was completely melted and was ready to pour

Once I poured my wax in along with a few generous drops of my "Jamaica Me Crazy" fragrance... it was time to let it set. The hard part is to not check it every 5 minutes :)

This particular bucket came with a plastic lid that I used to keep the wick center while the wax set. Just cut a hole in the center of the lid and pull the wick through.

I let the wax set over night. and trimmed the excess wick.

Lastly, I used my paint marker to add a sweet saying on my gift tag and Voila! Embellish with gift wrap and ribbon :)

You'll be sure to set the mood with this sweet smelling gift! Let me know if you decide to give it a try!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Brainstorming bedrooms

If you follow me on snapchat, you may have seen me talk about a huge project that I hope to finish this year! Im excited to be working on a entire home remodel decorating about 4 bedrooms, two living spaces, kitchen, & dining area. Its slightly overwhelming but I cant wait to see my visions become a reality!

The construction on the home should be wrapped up at the beginning of the year, at that point, I can begin the design process (the fun part!). So, while I still have a little time I've been brainstorming different bedroom ideas. Check out what I've come up with so far...

The home will be occupied with all males, so I tried to keep the bedrooms neutral while doing something different with each space.

This room is almost nautical with all of the navy but way more toned down. I love how grey is the neutral in this space.

This ultimate guys room features leather and wood neutrals. Very clean and masculine.

I thought this space was pretty gender neutral. The calm color pallet resembles a relaxing hotel get-a-way.

For the younger guest, the fun colors in this room brighten up the day. Cool abstract art make for a nice eye catcher.

All of these spaces are rough drafts, but I love getting my creative juices flowing with new projects on my hands. Which one is your favorite?

DIY Lucite tray

Here's an easy DIY to start off the New Year! I love the look of a sleek yet beautiful tray to corral my pretty things on my bed/nightstand. It just so happens that in stores, these trays can cost $50 and up! Here's how I easily made my own "lucite" tray for just about 5 bucks.

My inspiration was this tray from

CB2

. This one runs for about $40.

Okay so step one... head over to a craft store, Walmart, or Target and grab an acrylic box frame. I found mine at Michael's for around $4.00 depending on the size you choose. Now you could stop here, or add a little color like I did with the touch of gold.

I used Mod Podge and painted the inside of the frame with a foam brush.

Lastly, I trimmed some gold metallic scrapbook paper to size and placed it in my frame. Voila'! Instant glam "Lucite" tray! I also love that its lightweight so that I can move it to my nightstand whenever I desire.

Let me know if you try this easy DIY and tag me in your pics!

Loving Neutrals

'Tis the season... to redecorate!

I know, I know... it seems like when you FINALLY get your home the way you like it..you're ready for a change! Well, that's exactly what's come over me! For a while I was happy with my space ..I still am. I even stopped roaming through the home decor isles and took a Pinterest break! But, suddenly I feel inspired. I'm currently craving NEUTRALS. Luxurious neutrals. Rich leathers and soft velvets. Cozy fur and sassy prints. The E-Design above is just a taste of what I have in mind. I've been back in those home decor isles and I've spotted a few gems I really wish I could bring home!

We should all be aware of the greatness that is Nate Burkus! These goodies are apart of his Target line. Who doesn't love illuminated copper and fur poufs?!

Yes, Urban Outfitters has hip clothes, but their home decor section has some gems! Check out this leather butterfly chair. I've been secretly wanting this thing for years!

Cost Plus World Market is oozing with neutral goodness! This jute rug would look so great under a velvet sofa and I just cant get over that antelope fur pillow.. I mean c'mon!

I could go on and on, but I think you get my drift. I'm digging neutrals this season, but for now I'll just dream about them!
